We are all overwhelmed with the COVID news both locally and throughout Florida. Over the last two weeks the number of daily new cases has grown five-fold. Four out of the last five days, new cases have exceeded 9,000. Here in Key Biscayne, the number of cases is at 122, almost doubled since the beginning of June. As a result, the County and Village announced Emergency Orders rolling back some of the opening steps that no longer seem reasonable. Consistent with those steps intended to reduce the risk of virus spread, TKB will be closing our gym until further notice. Please also be advised that amongst other things, the Emergency Order states that as of Wednesday, restaurants will only be allowed to offer take-out service.
Your management and staff continue to work hard to make TKB safe. As you know, we’ve installed sanitizers throughout the property. We’re disinfecting high touch common areas, including elevators and lobby surfaces, multiple times throughout the day. Contractors working in the property are being screened daily and working under restrictions to minimize risk. But the biggest impact will be the actions that each one of us take that can decrease the risk of contracting this virus.
We hope that you and your family stay safe and healthy, but if you test positive for COVID, let the office know so that we can provide you whatever assistance we’re able while you quarantine. Statement from Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez on Additional Closures Related to COVID-19 Surge
Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez prepares to roll back business openings as Miami-Dade County continues to see a spike in the percent of positive COVID-19 tests and an uptick in hospitalizations.
Mayor Gimenez will sign an Emergency Order that will close restaurants (except for takeout and delivery services), along with ballrooms, banquet facilities, party venues, gyms and fitness centers, and short-term rentals. These closings, among others that will be included in the Order, will be effective Wednesday, July 8, 2020.
The Village of Key Biscayne is in lockstep with Miami-Dade County as we must follow the County’s Emergency Order. As such, the Village will continue to work with the local business community and community partners during this regression.
As Mayor Gimenez said, we can tamp down the spread of COVID-19 if everyone follows the rules, wears a mask or facial covering, and stays at least six feet apart from others. We are counting on each of you, our 13,000 residents, to stop the spread, so that we can get back to opening our economy. Please do your part. Report violations by calling 305-365-5555. Effective Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. and continuing until Monday, July 27 at 12:00 p.m., all non-motorized vehicular travel, with certain exceptions, is prohibited within the Village. This Emergency Order prohibits discretionary (non-essential) travel by all non-residents arriving on non-motorized vehicles from entering the Village of Key Biscayne.
